At the start of each new school year we focus on ensuring our year eleven’s do not leave us NEET. Each young person is spoken to about what they plan to do once they move on. There are a variety of Post 16 providers in Norfolk and Suffolk; this allows everyone to make a positive and effective choice. Ideally we will make sure everyone has a progression path planned before the Christmas break. Anyone joining us in the New Year will get the same assistance. The process: Arrange small group visits to providers and complete forms. Track interview dates and make sure they can attend, this may involve a member of staff going with them and making sure they can get home. Travel planning, looking at where they live and what bus or train they need to get. If feasible we will travel the route with them so everyone is confident and is aware of any travel discounts that may be available to students. There are Bursaries available and the process varies with different providers. As the forms are often not available until May or June we make sure each provider has the details of who is coming to them so that the forms can be sent directly to their homes. If possible we will take them through the process using previous year’s forms. And finally we remind everyone via the Respect4us Facebook page that they must attend the enrolment days if they plan to go to a local college. We can offer support on these days if needed.
To help every year 11 make a positive choice we have started to visit Post 16 providers. We will also look at different trades and skills needed.
